Our Mission
We exist to learn how to better coexist — educating with genuine, complete history, working toward fairer distribution of resources, and finding common ground so our goals become reality.
Our Vision
Communities of compassion interacting positively — where tolerance and respect for differences are the norm, community representatives resolve issues alongside the people they serve, and local government gives regular updates on compassion initiatives.
Why This Table Exists
The coalition came together around concern for the erasure of Black history and the need to preserve true history through education. Its members believe that cooperation, tolerance, and respect are learned — and that the whole community suffers when those virtues are absent from public life.
In the coalition's words, "we are weaker by default" when we practice divisive behaviors. Education across race and class can reduce elitism and racism — and the responsibility for change should not rest only on those already suffering most from these issues.
Current Focus
- Support honest dialogue around race, humanity, identity, and community repair.
- Establish regular community caucuses around the compassion initiatives.
- Connect equity-centered work with the broader Compassionate SWFL effort.
Our Values
Respect and equity will fail without compassion. It takes courage to open oneself and use community voices to share what lies in between — compassion is courageous work.
